Verse – 1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him, there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Reflection – 1 John 1:5-7 – God Is Light
Is it possible to sin in broad daylight? No, because we are often afraid that we will be judged or punished if we commit offenses with everyone watching on. If we are cautious to sin in daylight, for this reason, how then can we say that we are in God’s light if we continue to walk in darkness? This isn’t possible.
God is Light, meaning that if we claim to have him inside us then it means that evil cannot reside in us because darkness and light have no bearing on each other. Where there is light, there cannot be darkness, and where there is darkness there cannot be light.
We must therefore live our lives in the light of God. When we walk in the light, we fear no judgment, rebuke, or wrath from the Lord. We lead others to the light because they know that they can be saved from the darkness that chases them.
The blind cannot lead the blind, this means that if you deceive others into thinking that you live in light even though you walk in darkness, you will lead them into destruction and face the wrath of God. Let us, therefore, strive to live and walk in the light of the Lord always because we do not know when others will be watching us.
