Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way! A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord.
Proverbs 19:2-3.
There is nothing wrong with desiring to succeed. Every person on earth must strive to be better than they already are. It is only natural for one to pursue happiness and prosperity in their life. Your strife for success and a better life is not out of the ordinary but rather inborn from your father in heaven.
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus
(Philippians 3:13-14)
Setting new goals for yourself is how you grow in life. However, the main scripture tells us that desire alone will not give you success. You may have the destination in mind. You may be able to paint mental pictures of where you want to be in life and have the desire to achieve your goals but if you do not know the best route to take, it may result in failure.
We are often so overcome with our desires to do well that we do not take the time to understand how we want to get there. Evil people can take advantage of these desires and lead you to your downfall.
You may want to travel to a better place so badly. There is nothing wrong with having that desire. However, there are those who are also determined to undermine you through this strong desire that you have.
Because you may be so desperate to fulfill a dream or a goal, you may not even realize when someone is misleading you or taking you to your doom. Desire without knowledge is a failure. Knowing your destination alone isn’t enough for success rather knowing the right paths to take to get to your destination is what brings success.
You must be abreast with all the warning signs and the safe paths on the road to your destination. You must be able to spot those who want to distract you from your perfect ending in Christ. Your future is already gloriously prepared by God but without his knowledge and wisdom, you may not be able to get there.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future
(Jeremiah 29:11)
.…my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge
(Hosea 4:6).
These two verses show that your future is prosperous and harmless as long as you remain in God but without His knowledge, you will not be able to reach this glorious future.
Maybe you’ve been working towards a goal or certain goals in life but you never seem to be able to succeed and it makes you wonder why you keep failing no matter how much you try. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why people fail.
Why you keep failing in life
Lack of knowledge in the Lord
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work
(2 Timothy 3: 16-17).
Every goal or desire that you conceive can only be achieved if you are fully equipped to do so. According to the scripture, God’s word teaches rebukes, corrects, and trains you to be able to work towards achieving the goals and desires set for yourself.
Without the light of God, it is impossible to receive strength and light in times of weakness and darkness. When you get lost on the road to your destination, it is God’s word that guides you back to your original path.
Without the knowledge of God’s words, you will continue to depend on your own understanding and be swayed unto paths of oblivion.
Ignoring warning signs on the road
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen
(2 Peter 3:17-18).
Your journey towards success is always under threat of failure. There will be those who will be constantly trying to discourage and mislead you toward defeat and disgrace. You are warned to be on your guard always against lawless people who try to take you on other paths that are not consistent with the Lord’s plans for you.
These people take you away from under the grace, light, and knowledge of the Lord and Savior. Accepting the ways of these lawless people instead of the teachings of the Lord will cause you to fail continuously.

Listening to the wrong voices
We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
(2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
When you surround yourself with people who tell you words not consistent with the scripture, you are listening to the wrong voices. No one ever said that the Christians’ life will be without strife but rather the word of God says that you shall overcome and be victorious in the end.
The text tells you that no matter the difficulty you may encounter from whichever side, you are made unbreakable in Christ Jesus. Knowing that God will always be there for you and never allow any situation to break you will keep you pushing hard for your dream.
Failure is very common with those who do not meditate on these words day and night because their thoughts are filled with pessimism and self-doubt which causes them to fail.
Inability to persevere
For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes
(Proverbs 24:16)
Failure becomes confirmed when you fail to rise again. The road to your success may be littered with stumbling blocks and diversions but as long as the Lord is with you, you must keep going. Know in your heart that it is good ahead of you and as long as you do not give up, you can never fail.
There are times when it looks like we have hit a wall. Some people look for ways around that wall, others turn back because they may be discouraged by that wall but the children of God walk through it like the wall isn’t there. Do not be discouraged by what you see because it is all under God’s control.

Not trusting in the Lord
Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh? Can reeds thrive without water? While still growing and uncut, they wither more quickly than grass. Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless. What they trust in is fragile[a]; what they rely on is a spider’s web
Job 8:11-14
Failure occurs when you put your trust in anything other than God. This is because God created everything that we see and do not see. All clean and unclean spirits in heaven, on earth, or under the earth are under his control. He is the source of everything so wouldn’t you rather put your faith and trust in Him.
Only He knows your beginning and your end and the moment you stray from trusting Him is the moment your failure is confirmed. Trust in the Lord always and never leave His love behind. Only He knows what is best for you and how to get you to your perfect end. He made you and He knows what will work for you better than anyone or anything else.
Hardened heart against the Lord
But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory
Daniel 5:20
Do not harden your heart against the truth. It doesn’t matter how well things may be going for you in darkness, the end will always be misery and destruction for you. God’s light is the truth and until you come under that light, the enemy will have his way with you anytime he feels like it.
Follow the ways of the Lord and you will not fail. God’s path will always end you in glory and success that you could never have imagined. Success in darkness always has a dark price to pay. Do not harden your heart because things haven’t turned sour yet but rather turn away from evil now and you will be spared death and taken into everlasting life in glory.
