How To Pray For Your Husband

As a wife, one of the best things you can do for your husband is to pray for him. A wife is a helpmate to a husband. But what do you do, when you physically can’t be of help to your husband? You go on your knees and you pray for him.

Marriage entails a lot. But if you always go to God in prayer for your husband, that means you are bringing your marriage to him and he will take care of all that marriage entails for you.

When was the last time you prayed for your husband?

I’m not talking about a general prayer where you pray and you mention your husband, your friends and family that God should take care of them. I’m talking about going before God with your husband as the subject and dedicating that prayer to him.

It can be difficult to find time in our busy lives to say a prayer for our spouses. But if you make this a priority and you do this, you will find out that it is worth it.

Why pray for your husband?

1. Helps him make the right decision

As the head of the family, the husband is the one that makes most of the decisions in the family. Yes, in a good marriage, the wife is consulted and the husband seeks her opinion before making any huge decision but yet still, the end decision is the husband’s to make.

So when you pray for your husband and you ask God to direct his path and teach him what is right, it gives God the opportunity to send down the Holy Spirit to guide your husband’s actions and decisions.

This helps him to make the right decisions for himself and the family as a whole.

2. It’s an expression of love

What greater way to show your husband you care and love him than going before God on his behalf and saying a word of prayer for him? When you pray for your husband, it shows him that you care about him and you love him.

You might not tell him you pray for him but as you live in the same house, he is definitely going to know or hear you praying at least once. And knowing that you pray for him will let him know that he has someone who has got his back and will always look out for him no matter what.

This will, in turn, strengthen your relationship with your husband and make him love you even more.

3. Makes you compassionate

With any marriage, there is going to be times when you will have misunderstandings and arguments. But if you should go to God each time this happens and pray for your husband, it makes you more compassionate and it also helps you understand his point of view better.

It is unlikely for you to pray for your husband in anger. Once you start praying for him, the anger you feel will begin to fade and you will begin to see things in a different perspective.

4. It softens his heart

Imagine having a heated argument with your husband or having different opinions about something and you go to God in prayer. Firstly, seeing you pray even at that moment in your life is enough to soften his heart.

And secondly, praying to God means, you are giving God total control over whatever is going on and He will touch your husband and make understanding reign in your marriage.

5. You are his other half

You are your husband’s other half. Nobody knows him better than you do, not even his own parents. You are the one he shares everything with. You are the one he confides in. You are the one who can tell if he is sad or unhappy just at a glance.

You are his wife, his lover and his best friend. So you know him better than anyone. You know his strengths and his weaknesses. You know what he desires. And this means that when you pray for him you know exactly what to pray about. And that makes you the best person to pray for him.

6. It gives him reassurance

If your husband is going through a hard time in life that you physically can’t do anything to help, saying a word of prayer for him will give him reassurance and the strength to keep moving on.

In such times, what you should do is encourage him with your words, let him know you are there for him and pray for him.

How to pray for your husband

1. Thank God

It is important to start each prayer with thanks. So thank God on behalf of your husband. For his life,  his health and his job. Also thank God for bringing him into your life and giving you a man to call your husband.

Thanking God for your spouse is one thing you should do everyday because some people go through this life without getting someone to share a life with. Others although find someone, lose them too soon. So be thankful for what you have.

2. Pray for his relationship with God

Marriage is not an easy thing but if both of you have a relationship with God, it will make things a lot easier and better. So pray for your husband’s relationship with God. That he will know God and serve him better.

3. Seek guidance and wisdom for him

The next thing to do for your husband is to ask God for guidance and wisdom for your husband. So that He will guide him in all his doings and teach him what is right and help him make the best decisions.

4. Pray for protection for him

So many things are happening day in and day out both physically and spiritually to fight against him. This is why it is important to seek God’s protection for your husband. Pray that God protects him always. Pray that God keeps him safe wherever he goes and that God gives him the strength to overcome temptations and avoid situations that will bring him problems.

5. Tell God what you want for your husband

Praying for your husband is not the time to make selfish requests. You should not try to use prayer to manipulate your husband to do what you want him to do.

When you pray for your husband, let your prayer request be for what will benefit your husband. So pray for God’s will to be done in his life. Pray for God to use him to achieve His purpose for his life.

6. Pray for yourself

Yes, this is a time to pray for your husband but as his helpmate he needs you. So when you pray for him, you pray for yourself too. Pray that God gives you patience and understanding to love and respect him as a man and your husband.
