6 Prayers For Wedding

A wedding is the most important day in the lives of many people. Some women start planning for their weddings from the time they become young girls. They fantasize about how handsome their grooms will be and how beautiful their dresses and gowns will look. They think of it as the biggest occasion in their lifetime.

To the men, weddings are days they finally marry the girl of their dreams. The woman who will make it all better and share their lives with them, the mother of their children, the shaper of their dreams, and the one who satisfies their pleasures.

They say that women look for traits of their fathers in the men they want to marry and men look for traits of their mothers in their intended brides.

A wedding is a day we commit our lives to our partners and vow to love and keep them regardless of future circumstances. The pageantry and awesomeness of a wedding do not determine the destiny of a marriage. An approaching wedding date can be nerve-racking to the intended but God wants us relaxed and looking up to him for guidance.

Wives submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church for we are members of his body. For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:22-33

A wedding in God’s eyes is a day of sacrifice. Just as He sacrificed His Son for our salvation we must also sacrifice our lives for each other. When you marry you become one with each other. Imagine yourself fused with someone in one body. You will not do anything to harm that person because you know that you will harm yourself also in the process.

When all is said and done you should be able to look back and say boldly that I was one with my partner and they were one with me. Just as we expect Christ to be one with us and recognize our friendship when we meet him we must honor our partners and be one with them throughout our marriage lives. This is what God expects us to understand before our wedding day.

Marriage is a union between two souls who agree to share their lives on earth together. Let God be the foundation of your marriage. Let Him be the pillars of your marriage. Begin with Him. The wedding is just an initiation ceremony for your long marriage. Commit yourselves unto the Lord before you take the first step. Let Him dwell in your home.
