For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper. He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save. He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight;
Psalm 72:12-14
God expects Christians to behave a certain way towards the poor and needy. He expects us to hear their cries for help and deliver them from their travails. Just as we expect God to hear our cries when we call upon him he expects us to do the same for the poor and needy.
There are times we even expect God to anticipate what we need and give it to us even before we ask. We must do the same for the poor and needy.
There are those who have no helpers. There are orphans and widows who are finding it hard to make ends meet in life and need help. There are others who are oppressed and find themselves in difficult situations.
These people will sometimes reach out to you subtly and ask for your intervention. It is important as a Christian to see the travails and struggles of these people and reach out to them. Remember that God will do unto us what we do unto others so we must be constantly ready to offer a helping hand to those who need help.
Whatever blessing we receive from God is meant for us to be a shining light unto others. When God blesses us he does it so others will see his goodness and give glory to him. We are the light of the world. Lights are supposed to shine and drive away the darkness. We are therefore supposed to drive away hardships and suffering from the poor and needy.

Prayer For Orphans
Father Lord in Heaven,
I pray for orphans who need help
I pray that you meet them at their point of need
Please replace all that they have lost
Be their provider and heal them of their wounds
Grant them peace in their hearts and make their paths straight
Give them a new family and bring them closer to you
Let them not fall into the hands of the devil
Protect them as an eagle protects its young
Give them the strength to move on
Let them not feel abandoned
Bless them and give them grace and favor

Prayer for the poor
Dear Lord in Heaven,
We ask that you watch over the poor
Give them the strength to overcome their challenges
Open doors of opportunity for them
Let help come from the north, south, west, and east
Pour out your blessings and glory upon them
Let them not see their debtors anymore
Free them from all bondage
Wipe away all their tears
Bring redemption and restoration to their homes
Let them be poor no more
Let their lives be changed for the better
And let them glorify your name forever

Prayer for the oppressed
Dear Lord,
We pray for those suffering in their situations right now
We ask that you give them the strength to fight through it
We ask for divine intervention for them
Help them in their situations
Bring them justice and break their chains of oppression
Do a new thing in their lives today
Restore the peace and joy they once felt in their lives
Give solace to them and bring them happiness
Free them from bondage and oppression
Give them the strength to speak out and break the cycle
In you, there is no oppression
So let your calming and freeing spirit bring redemption to them
in Jesus’ name, we have prayed

Give them in abundance with leftovers

Feed their families
Let them find fruits where they can’t imagine

The needy are all around us. We must be each other’s keepers and find out how we can help each other. We should learn to speak to people and find out what they need. We should not simply pass when we see a beggar on the street; we must be the ones to change their lives. We must speak to them and let them find the Lord’s goodness through us. We are the light of this world and as such we must learn to be the instrument of God in helping the needy.
The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed.
