11 Good Prayers For Married Couples

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1

Corinthians 13:4-8

When it comes to marriage, love is the most important thing, and this verse above explains what love is. All the attributes mentioned above are the qualities and symptoms of a good marriage.

The first thing people fail to understand is that we are not flawless. That means that there is no way that two humans living together will not do something to offend each other.

Our mortal bodies have a tendency to crave the material things of this world and are therefore vulnerable when they are presented with some of these things.

There are so many things that can break up a marriage that do not have the qualities mentioned in the text above. These qualities represent the things that make a marriage withstand any evil force that may be threatening to derail the marriage.

The most common thing that causes marriages to fail is the inability to forgive each other. The reason we are able to live blameless in the eyes of God is that he was willing to forgive us and save us with the sacrifice of his own begotten son.

If a marriage is to work, both the wife and husband must be willing to forgive and love their partner no matter how difficult their situation is. The common theme of the text is the word ‘always’ and the fact that it conveys a continuous never-ending need to practice these qualities if the marriage or love is to be sustained.

You do not have to neglect any of these traits in the marriage at any point in time for any reason whatsoever. Do not let anyone or anything drive a wedge between you and your partner for any reason. Let the bond between the two of you never be breakable.

Always find yourself being patient, kind, not envious, always protecting, always trusting, always hoping, and always persevering together.

Prayer for a rocky marriage

Your marriage is sanctified in heaven by God. He knows all the struggles you may be going through so do not think for a second that you have to go through it alone. Pray to the Lord concerning your marriage always. He is the only one who knows the future and you must commit your marriage and future to him.

The Lord will fight for you when things get hard. He is always ready to step in and save you when you call on him. As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3.12-17
