Verse – John 4:10

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Reflection – John 4:10 – Living water

This verse is a metaphor for how people live their lives today. The Samaritan woman told Jesus that the only way he was getting water from the deep well was with a vessel that would delve deep enough to fetch the water.

The woman was thinking carnally. She didn’t know she was talking to the one who gives living water. Jesus explained that though it would take a vessel to fetch this earthly water, one would get thirsty again after some time. The water he was offering though was one that would quench thirst forever.

Imagine how confused this woman was. She had heard of the Messiah and all the miracles that followed him. She however didn’t take notice of him even though she was talking to him.

Christ is within us today but we still go out in search of something that will fulfill our physical lives and go through so many struggles just to find it. Even though these physical things may please us momentarily they will never ever satisfy us. Christ is our satisfaction. When you have Christ you are content because you know that no other physical thing can give you the happiness that his love and sacrifice have given to you.
