6 Tips To Maintain Your Mental Health

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30.

Mental health is a very important issue as far as societal growth is concerned. There are people living with a variety of mental health disorders in our modern world. Some can only find solutions and peace when they torture themselves or others.

Jesus knew the importance of dealing with a troubled mind and heart. For this reason, He told His followers to cast all of their burdens unto him. He entreated them to set down their yokes and baggage.

When the mind is not right it is impossible to lead a peaceful life. Not fully accepting yourself means that you will never accept your place in society and in God’s kingdom. God has a purpose for your life. He doesn’t want you to burden yourself with troubling issues that clump up your mind and make you feel unworthy.

He wants you to accept the beauty that is you. Your uniqueness is your beauty. That there is only one of you in the entire universe means that God spent time giving you those aesthetic and personality attributes. Do not let anything or anyone deceive you into thinking anything else. You are a special being and cannot be imitated in any way.

In Christ there is rest. He wanted his followers to understand that his death and resurrection were for the purpose of their liberation. No longer were they supposed to feel unworthy but rather they were to feel like royalty.

Jesus Christ came to take away your burdens of imperfection, heavy baggage, weariness, unworthiness, and low self-esteem. Your salvation means that you stand clean, righteous, and without blemish in front of God. If God accepts you for who and what He made you, who can say otherwise?

The mind is the quickest medium the evil one uses to take advantage of Christians. He shows you things that put doubts in your mind and causes you to question your true worth and importance to God. He then makes you feel imperfect and unworthy to the point that it starts affecting your life and relationships in a negative way.

However, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 reminds us ‘Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Christ won all our battles for us so we need not be wearied anymore. As a member of God’s kingdom your perfection has already been completed in Christ so do not be troubled in your mind or your heart by what you see or hear.

How to maintain your mental health

Remember what you have in Christ

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

(2 Timothy 1: 7).

When your mind belittles you or tells you that you are not good enough, remember what you have been given in Christ Jesus. Your spirit is not a weak spirit that accepts the negativity others try to affect you with but it is one of power, love, and self-discipline.

Whenever you are being told something that does not agree with your basic programming you must reject it. Do not let it enter your mind and cause damage, throw it away right there and then because it is not true.

Whether it is something you are saying to yourself or something you think because of what you’ve been through, do not let such things corrupt your mind but instead, remember what you have in Christ. If you can do this on your own, remember that seeking professional help, such as a PTSD treatment program, can provide valuable strategies for managing these thoughts and emotions.

Embracing a support system can make a significant difference in your journey to healing.  If you’re finding it particularly challenging to manage your thoughts and emotions and could use some professional guidance, considering to find a therapist who resonates with you and understands your unique circumstances can be a pivotal step towards healing. Professional therapists can offer personalized strategies and support, aiding you in navigating the complexities of mental wellness with compassion and expertise.

Find strength in the Lord

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

(Philippians 4:13).

Do not ever feel like you are where you are now because of your strength. Your achievements are greatness as a result of the strength you receive from your salvation. The fact that you have made it this far means that the Holy Spirit has interceded on your behalf all this while.

Know where your strength lies and take a healthy dose of it every morning before you start your day. Say each day;
I am made perfect in God’s image.
He has no flaws so I have none either.
I am made according to His plan.
and My strength comes from Him

Resist negative environments

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.

(1 Corinthians 5:33)

Those you surround yourself with can ruin your mind. Listening to negative voices each day will eventually corrupt your character and make you believe their negativity. Evil council can make you abandon the good thing you have for the bad thing you don’t know.

Do not let anyone mislead you with their world views. The most important opinion you need concerning your life is God’s spoken word about you.

A toxic environment can make you accept bad things you do not need in your life. Avoid toxic people and encourage positivity in your life. Surround yourself with people who motivate you to do well and accept perfection and not those who tear down your character.

Accept only God’s word as Truth

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

(2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Your foundations are built on your salvation. These foundations of God’s spoken word are your strongholds. Remember however that the evil one seeks to destroy these foundations and make you weaker so you can succumb to his deceit and lose your soul in the process.

According to Paul, these evil ones can destroy your strongholds if you do not quash all arguments and lies they try to use to resist the knowledge of God and establish God’s words as truth in our lives.

If you let someone replace God’s knowledge in your head with their own perspectives about life, your foundations will begin to show cracks. You must therefore know God’s word and be grounded in His truth so you are not moved by any misrepresentations of the truth.

Have a spiritual mind

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

(Romans 8:6)

God is everlasting and He is not pleased by flesh or temporary things. Before you accept yourself as flawed, decide whether you are being governed by flesh or by spirit. When your mind is easily influenced by matters of the flesh, it displeases God because He is holy and not in the flesh.

Be concerned with things of the spirit for that is the only way to please God. Also, remember that the body conforms to what is being fed by the spirit and so a weak spirit produces a weak mind.

Let your thoughts be on the spiritual blessings of God. Do not have a carnal mind but rather a strong spirit that cannot be broken and the body will follow suit. People who are strong in spirit cannot be manipulated or misled.

Speak positively to yourself

He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.

(Mark 7:20)

Be careful what you let into your heart because that will control what comes out of you. Your words are a reflection of what is inside you. You must be sure to speak positivity always. Do not let any situation cause you to look down on yourself. Always speak highly of yourself. Let good words of motivation and self-belief dominate your speech.

Let your heart be full of goodness and positive things. Keep your mind focused on the good works of God in your life. Look back and see how far you have come because of Him and appreciate Him for it. Put your future on His shoulders and let down any burdens on you. Let Christ give your rest from your mental stress.
