Reflection – Deuteronomy 6:6 – God’s Commandments

Things that are on your heart are things you care deeply about. This is where God expects you to keep his commandments. What your heart desires and loves is more important to you than anything else. This is why as a Christian you must be careful what you carry in your heart.

The heart is the source of all your beliefs and your feelings. It controls your behavior and is the center of all your decision-making. When you set your heart on something it becomes very difficult to sway from it. God does not just want us to hear his commandments, he wants us to understand them and keep them in our hearts.

With the darkness in this world, God’s commandments are the light that lead us to righteousness. If God’s commandment is in your heart, it controls your every emotion. It controls your behavior and you try with every bone in your body not to break them.

There is no faking when it comes to the heart. You can deceive people with your words and your actions but what is in your heart cannot be faked. It is in your heart that your true feelings reside. There are times your heart lets you feel things you have no control over. The heart is sincere in what it feels. It cannot be deceived. This is why God expects you to keep his commandments in your heart.
