18 Short Bedtime Prayers for Kids

Matthew 19:14 says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Jesus showed deep love for children and made it clear that those who belong to the kingdom of heaven must have a childlike heart. He also reminds us that we must be born again of the Spirit to enter heaven.

Children should be raised in the ways of God so they do not depart from His word. One of the most powerful ways to do this is by making prayer a daily habit. Pray for your children – their future, their education, and their health. Keeping simple bedtime prayers for them can help build this habit.

Bedtime is already part of a child’s daily routine. After a long day of school, play, homework, and bathing, they are ready to rest. This moment is a perfect opportunity to guide them into prayer before they fall asleep.

Help your children develop the habit of praying every night. Teach them simple prayers, and over time they will learn to pray on their own. Encourage them to talk to God about anything, including challenges they face at school. You can even plan a prayer for each day of the week to help them grow spiritually.

Bedtime Prayer for Children of the World

Lord in heaven,
Tonight I lift up all the children of the world to You. Please let every child experience love and care each day. Heal those who are sick and give them strength to recover. Bless them and help them to grow in Your love and protection. I pray for children who are hungry. Please provide food for them and meet their needs.

Be a Father to those who do not have parents, and protect them from harm and danger. Watch over children who live on the streets and keep them from falling into the wrong hands. Fill their hearts with peace and hope. Help them to grow into strong and important people in the future. Hear their prayers and give them the strength to keep going each day. Amen.

Praying with your children helps them understand that life extends beyond their immediate surroundings. It teaches them to care for others as well as themselves. Most importantly, it reminds them that there is a loving God who created them and watches over them every step of their lives (Isaiah 41:10).

As they grow, encourage them to pray on their own, even in your absence. This independence in faith is what God desires. Teach them the right path so they will remain grounded in it, even when they are alone (Proverbs 22:6).
