The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Reflection – Genesis 2:9 – God Knows Best
Genesis 2:9 reminds us that God placed every tree that was pleasing to the eye and good for food in the Garden of Eden. God had already provided everything Adam and Eve needed. Nothing was missing. Nothing had been overlooked. Yet among all the trees in the garden, there was one tree He instructed them not to eat from. It was not because God wanted to deprive them, but because He knew what was best for them.
Isn’t it amazing how humans are? As parents, we want our children to trust us and do as we say because we understand things they cannot yet see. We know what could hurt them and what could protect them. Sometimes children do not understand our rules. Even when we explain our reasons, they may still struggle to see our perspective. What we often desire most is for them to trust that we love them and that every instruction we give comes from a place of care.
In many ways, our relationship with God is very similar. We are His children, and He sees what we cannot see. He knows the dangers around us, the consequences of our choices, and the plans He has for our future. Yet there are times when we question His instructions because they do not make sense according to our own understanding. We want answers. We want explanations. We want to know why we cannot have what we desire right now.

When we are young, life is very simple. We know what makes us happy and what makes us sad. When we are hungry, we cry. When we are satisfied, we smile. As children, we often live in the moment without worrying about all the complexities of life.
Adam and Eve experienced an innocence that is difficult for us to imagine today. Before they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they did not even realize they were naked. They did not understand shame, guilt, or sin. They lived in complete fellowship with God and trusted Him for everything they needed.
The moment they chose to disobey God, everything changed. Their eyes were opened, but not in the way they expected. What seemed desirable ended up bringing pain, separation, and consequences. They gained knowledge, but they also lost the innocence and closeness with God that they once enjoyed.
One of the greatest lessons we can learn from this account is that God’s instructions are always for our benefit. He is not trying to withhold good things from us. In fact, every good thing comes from Him. The enemy often convinces us that God’s way is restrictive while our own way offers freedom. However, time and time again, Scripture shows us that true freedom is found in obedience to God.
Many of us can look back over our lives and identify moments when we insisted on having our own way. We ignored God’s warnings, trusted our feelings instead of His Word, and followed our own desires. Often, we later discovered that God’s instruction would have saved us from unnecessary heartache. The Lord sees the beginning and the end. What looks good today may lead to pain tomorrow, but God already knows the outcome.
God does not ask us to understand everything before we obey Him. He asks us to trust Him. Faith means believing that God’s wisdom is greater than our own. It means choosing His path even when we cannot see where it leads. It means surrendering our plans, desires, and expectations to the One who knows us better than we know ourselves.
As believers, we must remember that God has already provided everything we need for the journey He has called us to walk. Our responsibility is to remain close to Him, listen to His voice, and obey His Word. When we trust His guidance, we place ourselves under His protection and direction.
Today, if God is asking you to wait, trust Him. If He is asking you to let go of something, trust Him. If He is leading you down a path you do not fully understand, trust Him. He is a loving Father who knows what is best for His children. His plans are always greater than our own, and His wisdom never fails.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your love, Your wisdom, and Your faithful guidance. Thank You for caring about every detail of my life and for always knowing what is best for me. Forgive me for the times I have trusted my own understanding more than I have trusted You. Forgive me for the moments when I questioned Your instructions, resisted Your guidance, or tried to take matters into my own hands.
Lord, help me to remain on the path You have prepared for me. Give me a heart that is willing to obey You even when I do not fully understand what You are doing. Teach me to trust Your timing and Your plans above my own desires. Let Your Word be the foundation upon which I build my life.
Help me not to depend on my own strength, wisdom, or abilities. Instead, teach me to surrender everything into Your hands each day. When I am tempted to go my own way, remind me that Your ways are higher and Your thoughts are greater than mine. Give me the faith to follow where You lead and the patience to wait when You tell me to be still.
May Your love, favour, and protection surround me throughout my life. Help me to live in a way that honours You and reflects my trust in You. No matter what lies ahead, I choose to believe that You are working all things together for my good. Thank You for being a loving Father who never leaves me and never stops guiding me.
