Reflection – Acts 17:24-25 – We Serve The True God

Verse – Acts 17:24-25

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

Reflection – Acts 17:24-25 – We Serve The True God

In Acts 17:24–25, Paul speaks to the people of Athens who were surrounded by many idols and objects of worship. They had created gods out of materials they could see and touch, and they placed their trust in these things because they felt familiar and controllable.

Many of us still fall into this same pattern today, even if it looks different. Instead of carved idols, we may place our trust in money, careers, relationships, or possessions. These are things we can see and measure, so they feel secure. But just like the Athenians, we sometimes forget that these things are created and limited.

Paul reminds them that God, the true Creator, cannot be made by human hands. He is the one who made the world and everything in it. He does not depend on anything we give Him, because He is the source of life itself. This is such a powerful truth because it shifts our focus. Instead of depending on what is temporary, we are called to rely on the One who created everything and holds everything together.

This reflection challenges us to think about where our trust truly lies. It is easy to say we believe in God, but our actions sometimes show that we rely more on other things. When life becomes uncertain, we tend to run toward what we can control instead of surrendering to God. But the truth is, nothing we have can sustain us the way God can. Everything else can fail, change, or be taken away, but God remains constant.

When we understand that God is the source of our life, it changes how we live. We begin to worship Him not just out of routine, but out of deep understanding. We recognise that our strength, our breath, and our existence all come from Him. This humbles us and draws us closer to Him. It also frees us from the pressure of trying to find security in things that cannot fully satisfy us.

We serve a living God who is not limited by the things of this world. He is not distant or unaware of our lives. He is present, powerful, and involved in everything that concerns us. When we truly grasp this, we learn to let go of the things we have been holding onto too tightly and begin to trust Him more deeply.

Self Reflection Questions

  • What am I currently placing my trust in apart from God?
  • Are there areas in my life where I rely more on myself or material things than on God?
  • Do my daily choices reflect a dependence on God or on what I can control?
  • What would it look like for me to truly surrender everything to God?
  • Am I worshipping God for who He is, or only seeking Him for what He can give me?

Declaration

I declare that my faith and trust are in the Lord and in Him alone. I will not rely on things that can fade away or fail me. My confidence is not in my job, my finances, my relationships, or anything I possess. All that I have comes from God, and He alone is my source. I believe that He is the Creator of heaven and earth, the one who holds my life in His hands. I choose to trust Him completely, even when I do not understand what is happening around me. I will not be moved by what I see, but I will stand firm in my faith. My hope is built on God, and I will continue to depend on Him for everything I need. He is my strength, my provider, and my peace, and I will honour Him with my life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before you with a heart that desires to know you more. Thank you for being the source of my life and everything I have. Forgive me for the times I have placed my trust in things instead of in you. Help me to recognise when I am depending on my own strength or on what I can see. Teach me to shift my focus back to you and to rely on you completely.

Lord, open my eyes to see you as you truly are, not limited by my understanding, but as the all-powerful Creator of everything. Help me to let go of the things I have been holding onto and to surrender every part of my life into your hands. Give me wisdom to discern when my priorities are misplaced and guide me back onto the right path.

Teach me to worship you in spirit and in truth, not just with my words, but with my life. Help me to remain faithful to you in every season, whether things are going well or not. Strengthen my faith so that I will not be shaken by circumstances, and remind me daily that you are in control of all things.

Let my life reflect a deep trust in you. Help me to walk with confidence, knowing that you are guiding me and providing for me. Fill my heart with peace that comes from depending on you alone. I choose you above everything else, Lord, and I ask that you continue to lead me, shape me, and draw me closer to you every day. Amen.
