Verse – Isaiah 1:22-24
Your silver has become dross, your choice wine is diluted with water. Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them. Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: “Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes and avenge myself on my enemies.
Reflection – Isaiah 1:22-24 – A Rebellious Nation
God’s anger came on His people when they started exhibiting the behaviors we see in the scripture. Are these things going on today? Yes, they are.
Money has become the god of man now. People who have been placed in high places by God to look out for his children are now slaves to money. They no longer judge justly but accept bribes to condemn innocent men.
Those in need cannot bring their cases before them because they do not have the money or the gifts to approach those in high places. They are now partners with the wicked and thieves who exploit the helpless and the fatherless.
If our society does not change from these evil ways, the Lord will treat us like enemies and avenge Himself. He is the reason we have lived in the first place and He did not create us to become a rebellious nation who do the evil that Isaiah revealed in prophesy.
We must strive to be better by listening to His warnings. We must take care of the needy and protect the fatherless otherwise He will not do the same for us when we need him.
