Verse – John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Reflections
What is troubling your heart? What is making you afraid, keeping you awake at night, and stealing your joy during the day?
For some, it’s financial pressure, the bills keep coming, but the income isn’t enough. For others, it’s the uncertainty of the future, the unknowns about health, career, relationships, or the well-being of loved ones.
There are those battling sickness, either in their own body or watching someone they love go through pain. Some are weighed down by grief, loneliness, or the sting of rejection.
And then there are the quieter troubles, anxiety that creeps in without warning, the heaviness of disappointment, or the weariness from trying to hold everything together.
Whatever it is, Jesus sees it. And in the very moment your heart feels overwhelmed, His words still echo through time: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”
When Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, He was preparing to leave them. They had followed Him closely, seen His miracles, heard His voice speak life into hopeless situations. He had been their guide, their protector, their source of courage. But now, He was going to the Father.
Imagine the fear and confusion that must have filled their hearts. They had already experienced the devastation of His death, the grief of those dark days when it seemed all hope was gone. Even after His resurrection, knowing He would soon depart again could have left them feeling abandoned.
Yet Jesus didn’t leave them empty-handed. He left them His peace, not just any peace, but His peace. This wasn’t the fragile, temporary calm that the world offers, the kind that depends on perfect circumstances. This was a deep, unshakable peace that remains even in the middle of storms.
The world’s version of peace fades quickly. It’s the relief that comes when a problem is solved, but disappears when the next one arrives. It’s the sense of calm that relies on everything going well, but crumbles the moment something goes wrong.
But the peace of Jesus is different. It doesn’t deny the reality of pain, loss, or uncertainty, it simply refuses to be shaken by them.
That same peace is available to you today.
You might be facing a diagnosis that has turned your life upside down. You might be praying for a prodigal child, waiting for a breakthrough in your marriage, or wondering if you will ever see your prayers answered. The storms may be loud, the winds strong, and the waves high, but the peace of Jesus is stronger still.
Why? Because His peace is rooted in who He is, not in what’s happening around you. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and His presence brings calm to the chaos. When your heart is anchored in Him, you can stand firm, knowing that He is in control, that He sees the end from the beginning, and that He will never leave you.
Paul writes in Philippians 4:7 about “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.” This is the kind of peace that doesn’t make sense to the world. It’s the kind of peace that keeps you steady when everything says you should fall apart. It’s the kind of peace that makes people wonder how you can smile in the middle of a storm.
And here’s the truth, this peace is not something you have to earn. Jesus has already given it to you. It’s part of the inheritance He left for His children. The key is to receive it and choose to walk in it. That means turning your worries over to Him in prayer, filling your mind with His promises, and trusting His goodness even when you don’t understand His timing.
So, let not your heart be troubled. Let not fear dictate your thoughts or your actions. Instead, remember that you are loved, you are seen, and you are held by the One who commands the wind and the waves. His peace is your portion. His peace is your strength. His peace is your anchor in every storm.
