Verse – Luke 2:25-32
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts.
When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
Reflection – Luke 2:25-32 – Listen To The Spirit
What was the significance of Simeon? Do we hear the Holy Spirit speak to us? Does the Holy Spirit move us?
The significance of Simeon is that God wants His children to be in tune with Him. If we claim to possess the Spirit of God, then we should know what He is doing and when He is doing it every time. If we are truly righteous and devout as Simeon was, we must be able to hear the plans of God and be moved to accomplish those plans.
Simeon was convinced within himself that he had finally set eyes on the Messiah because he had direct contact with the Spirit of God. Having the Holy Spirit should not be something we simply say or confess.
The presence of the Holy Spirit must be accompanied by physical manifestations in your life. You should be able to sense impending disaster, you should hear the voice of the Lord clearly and you should be convinced in everything you do for the Lord.
When the Holy Spirit bears witness with yours, it is manifested in the physical realm through various works that show the hands of God. We must therefore rekindle the dormant spirits in us so we are not taken by surprise when the Lord does his work.
