How To Not Be A Loser

We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair, we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

2 Corinthians 4:8-10

Being a loser is only possible when you accept defeat. As a Christian, you should know that by the blood of Christ, you are victorious. This does not mean that you will not meet obstacles or be persecuted.

As the text says, you will be struck down, persecuted, and perplexed but you will never be destroyed, abandoned, left in despair, or crushed because of the life of Christ despite his crucifixion.

Accepting defeat in any situation is impossible for a Christian. This is because the very fabric of Christ’s spirit knows no defeat. It is a spirit that raised the dead, healed the sick, and rose from death. This means that Christians cannot be losers. As already said, being a loser is only confirmed if you want it to be.

Studying God’s word must give you the mindset of a winner. You must always see through any obstacle and look for your victory at the end. Once your mindset is on the glory that God has planned and purposed for you no matter what, you will never accept being called a loser.

It doesn’t matter how many times winners fall, it only matters that they always rise up after each fall. Every fall comes with a lesson on how to avoid the next big trap. Winners learn from their falls and use them as a springboard to sail to even bigger heights.

Purpose in your heart and mind that you will never let anything cause you to give up or accept defeat because the spirit of Christ resides in you always.

For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

Proverbs 24:16

A riser is a winner. People who are never discouraged or lose hope are the ones to go on to share a testimony. There are also those who look at one disappointment and then completely give up on themselves. You must never desert God no matter how precarious or devastating your situation may be.

If things are not going the way you want them to go, do not give up on God. He is the only one who knows the future and what better paths lay ahead of you.

When you lose every material thing, know that you still have God in you. With God all things are possible and he can multiply everything you once had and give it to you again just like he did with Job.

When you feel like you want to give up, know that is a trait of a loser. A winner as stated before looks for the positives in any disaster and builds again.

Sportsmen who are undefeated did not get that way because they faced easy opponents along the way. There were times they came close to being defeated but they never allowed themselves.

There were times people turned against them but that did not cause them to deviate from what makes them successful. There were times people tried to convince them to lose on purpose for a handsome reward but they refused to listen because they knew there were greater rewards ahead. This is what it means to be a winner.

Don’t give up

Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Psalm 30:5b

You cannot be a loser when you focus on rising always after a fall. When everyone sees the darkness in your situation you must look for the light. There are times people will tell you they understand if you keep crying and never rise from a particular fall. Do not accept defeat. Never let your testimony be wasted.

No matter how dark the story is, there is always a victory song at the end. Keep going until you find that victory tune. You may cry, you may bleed, you may hurt but you must always stand firm and be strong through it all. Know that the Lord is already fighting for your victory and until your life is lost, there is always hope for you.

Don’t stray from God’s path

A man who wanders from the way of understanding, Will rest in the assembly of the dead.
Proverbs 21:16

Do not stop doing what has gotten you this far. As earlier said, the undefeated never stray from the principles of what makes them champions. It doesn’t matter how people try to influence them with shiny gifts to get them to lose their stardom.

Similarly, there are people who will try to cause you to stray from the path of God because they are afraid of what you might become if you keep progressing on God’s path. If you do not want to be a loser, then you must be careful when you are winning.

These are the times your enemies will try to bring you down. They will entice you with immediate success that will ruin your future. This is why you must never stray from the path of God that brings you success.

Mental strength

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Proverbs 31:25

Be clothed in strength. Be mentally strong enough to battle any doubts that may be creeping into your Christian life. You must also be tough enough to withstand any negative winds that may be blowing your way trying to knock you off your path to success.

The journey to where the Lord wants you to be will not be easy for you to travel. Even though his doors remain open to you, there are people who will always aim to block you with impediments. This is why you must never relent in your efforts to win no matter what.

A mentally strong person is not easily deceived or led astray by anything physical or spiritual. They keep their eyes on the ball until their success is complete. And then they strive for more.

Press on

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:14

You must focus on your end goal all the time. Be focused on the prize set above for you and do not let anything distract you from it. Once you focus on your goal, you may fall seven times but you will rise again. Until you get to where you are going, you will never stop.

Being a winner is not about succeeding without failure, it is about succeeding despite failure. You must strive to complete your journey no matter how many detours your road may take because of obstacles that have suddenly appeared in the road.

Keep your eye on the gifts God has in store for your future. Until you get there, press on, and don’t let anything steal that future from you.

Never rely on your strength

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead

Philippians 3:13

Winners do not focus on past victories. They strive to claim more victories ahead. They make sure they do not get complacent and rest on their laurels.  They also make sure they don’t rely on their own strength or think that they accomplished anything with their own strengths.

The devil will try to make you believe that you accomplished everything on your own just to get pride in your heart and cause you to fall. This will set you on the path to failure. Pride always comes before a fall. Take every victory as a blessing from God but let it not cause you to lose sight of your bigger goal. When times are hard, pray to God for strength and let his guiding hand lead you to victory.

Look for the positives in any setback

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

Isaiah 40:8

When the rain falls, it can destroy things and take away people’s lives. It can render people homeless and cause a lot of havoc in places that are not suitably located.

However, there is no way the human race can survive without the rain. It gives us water and food which gives us life. No matter what happens in your life, give thanks to God and look for the positives to help you move on.

When your business collapses, take what you learned from that business and use it to open another avenue for yourself. If one door closes on you, it means another one has opened somewhere. Find it and go through it and find your new avenue.

Sometimes, old things must die for new things to sprout. Do not take setbacks as a way God discourages you but as a way for you to grow and shed your old skin for a new and beautiful one. Just as a butterfly must change from a caterpillar to be able to fly, you must be prepared for change to be able to grow in Christ.
