Reflections – 1 Corinthians 15:3 – Our First And Greatest Duty

Verse – 1 Corinthians 15:3

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures

The Bible is filled with prophecies pointing to the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah, centuries before Christ, foretold a Saviour who would live a blameless life, yet willingly take on the punishment for our sins (Isaiah 53).

Though these prophecies were ancient, they were fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul speaks with urgency and clarity. He reminds them and us of the heart of the gospel: Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, all exactly as the Scriptures foretold.

Paul is not sharing an opinion or a suggestion; he is passing on a truth of first importance. He affirms that this good news is not meant to be hidden but to be proclaimed.

As followers of Christ, we are not merely recipients of salvation; we are also bearers of His message. One of our most important duties is to be “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). That is actively seeking to share the gospel with others.

Yet, in the busyness of life, it is easy to forget this calling. We focus on our own spiritual growth, prayers, and needs, and in doing so, we sometimes overlook the mandate to reach out to the lost.

But the gospel is not meant to stop with us. Like Paul, we are entrusted with the task of passing it on. This is not a suggestion for the “super spiritual” or those in full-time ministry. It is the responsibility of every believer. We have been rescued from sin and death, not to keep silent, but to proclaim the One who saved us.

When we truly grasp what Christ has done, we will feel a holy urgency to tell others. People all around us are living without the hope we carry. They may not realise that their sins have already been paid for.

We have the privilege and the duty to share this truth: Christ died for their sins according to the Scriptures because they are loved beyond measure.

This is more than an act of kindness; it is obedience to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20).

As Christians, we are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), representing Him in our workplaces, homes, and communities. Sometimes, sharing the gospel means having a direct conversation about faith. Other times, it means living in such a way that our lives point people to Jesus through kindness, integrity, and sacrificial love.

Let today be your reminder: you are called, equipped, and sent. The message you carry has the power to transform lives for eternity. Do not let fear, busyness, or doubt keep you silent. Like Paul, boldly pass on what you have received.

  2. What fears or excuses have been holding me back from telling others about Jesus?
  3. How can I make sharing the gospel a more natural part of my daily life?
  4. Who in my life right now needs to hear that Christ died for their sins?

Prayer

Almighty Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the consequences of my sins and die in my place. Help me to live a life worthy of His sacrifice, and not to continue in sin, so that His death will never be in vain in my life.

Give me courage to share the gospel with boldness, and the compassion to see others through Your eyes. Strengthen me to speak truth in love, and to live in a way that draws people to You. Because of Your grace, I am an overcomer, victorious over temptation and fear.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
