Send one of you that he may get your brother, while you remain confined, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you. But if not, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies.Genesis 42:16.
Joseph knew these men were his brothers and yet he threw them in prison. He wanted to test them to see if their words were true. He also wanted to see if they had been reformed from the last time he saw them.
He loved his brothers and this must not have been easy for him. He cried secretly and did not reveal himself unto them until he was absolutely sure they told the truth and had repented of their sins against him.
Let us relate this to our walk with God. There are times when wickedness and insensitivity get the best of us. Times we allow the devil to get to us and dictate our actions. Jealousy, greed, selfishness, envy, and discontentment drive us into trouble.
When we break the laws of our land we may find ourselves confined to prisons and restricted areas. One moment of weakness and an inability to forgive can take us to the wrong side of the law. When this happens our lives may take a turn for the worse. If you find yourself in prison, do not think that God hates you and has deserted you.
As Christians, we must pray for those in confinement. We must pray for their souls and their faith. There are some who deserve to be confined and there are some who have been wrongfully accused and confined.
All manner of people find themselves in prison and God loves every single one of them. There are some who are getting properly rehabilitated so they can be absorbed back into society and there are some who should not have been sent there at all.
God expects us to be kindhearted and encouraging towards these people. He expects us to share his love with them and assure them that he loves them despite their current predicament.
Every soul is important to the Lord and he wants us to get them for him. Just because someone is imprisoned doesn’t make them any less human. The anguish, torture, and inhumane some of them get are all seen by the Lord.
When the wicked torture the weak, God sees but gives time for the wicked to repent and gives strength for the weak to not lose faith so that he can save them both.
Death is the end for our mortal bodies and once it occurs it becomes impossible for a sinful soul to join the Lord in paradise. This is why we must constantly pray for those imprisoned so they keep their souls pure for the Lord God in heaven.

Imprisonment does not mark the end of someone’s life. It is our duty as Christians to carry God’s love to those imprisoned. We must make sure that they do not feel neglected and dejected.
We should not only visit them during festive occasions but we must frequently visit them and make sure they do not lose touch with the word of God. This is the only way they will not lose faith in God and damn their souls.
Remember where you were before God found and rescued you. Feel the same love and appreciation for those incarcerated and reach out to them too.
All those hearing him continued to be amazed, and were saying, “Is this not he who in Jerusalem destroyed those who called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?Acts 9:21
