Verse – Psalm 136:23-26
He remembered us in our low estate. His love endures forever and freed us from our enemies. His love endures forever. He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Reflection – Psalm 136:23-26 – God Finds Us At Our Lowest
God remembers us at our lowest. The psalmist doesn’t just say it once, he repeats it as a refrain: His love endures forever. This enduring love is not conditional, not based on how strong, righteous, or successful we are. He remembered the Israelites when they were enslaved in Egypt, oppressed, downtrodden, forgotten by the world. And yet, not forgotten by Him.
This tells us something profound about the nature of God’s love. He doesn’t wait until we’re at our best to rescue us. He meets us in the mess, in the heartbreak, in the wilderness. He finds us at our weakest and still deems us worthy of His attention and mercy. That is grace.
We often like to think that our blessings come because we did something right, that perhaps we earned God’s favour through good behaviour, faithfulness, or devotion. But this passage reminds us that God acted while His people were in their lowest estate. Not after they had proven themselves. Not after they had climbed out of the pit. But in the pit.
Let that settle in your spirit.
God blesses us not because of who we are but because of who He is. That’s why His love never fails. It doesn’t fluctuate with our moods or mistakes. It remains constant forever.
When God lifts us out of our former condition, when He takes us from shame to honour, from mourning to joy, from despair to hope, we must not forget what He did for us.
It’s tempting, especially in times of abundance and ease, to forget the valleys we’ve walked through. But our victories are not meant to puff us up. They are meant to point us back to Him.
God’s elevation is never random. He seats us at the high table not so we can boast, but so we can bear witness to His mercy. He rescues us not just for our comfort but for His glory. And when we remember that, it humbles us. It keeps our hearts soft and thankful.
Do not despise your lowest moments, they are the testimony of God’s power in your life. And do not let comfort harden your gratitude. Every blessing, every breakthrough, every open door is a reflection of His love that endures forever.

Prayer
Dear Lord,
I thank You with all my heart for the steadfast love You have poured into my life, even when I did nothing to deserve it. Thank You for reaching down to find me at my lowest point, when I was lost, weary, and without hope, and for lifting me out of that place into Your marvellous light. Thank You for giving me a seat at the high table, for surrounding me with blessings, and for clothing me in grace and favour every single day. My soul glorifies Your holy name continually, and my spirit bears witness to Your endless kindness and mercy.
Lord, help me to live each day in a way that truly honours You, so that my words will always reflect Your goodness and my actions will demonstrate the depth of my gratitude. May Your praise never depart from my lips, no matter what I face. When I am tempted to forget all You have done, please remind me. When pride tries to take root in my heart, humble me gently. When despair threatens to overtake me, uplift me by the power of Your Word. May I never lose sight of Your enduring love, whether in triumph or in trial.
Amen.
