Reflection – Psalm 148 – Praise The Lord

Verse – Psalm 148

Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the skies. Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created, and he established them forever and ever— he issued a decree that will never pass away.

Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees, and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures, and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and women, old men and children.

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.

Reflection – Psalm 148 – Praise The Lord

There are moments in life when words of petition are not what’s needed. Instead, what our hearts truly long to do is simply praise. No requests, no intercessions — just pure, joyful praise. Psalm 148 is a beautiful call to do exactly that. It echoes across heaven and earth, urging all creation to lift up their voices in adoration of the Lord.

From the heights of heaven to the depths of the sea, from the sun, moon, and shining stars to the earth’s kings, beasts, and small creatures — everything that has breath is invited to praise the Lord. Why? Because He is worthy. Not just because of what He gives, but because of who He is. His majesty fills the heavens, His power sustains the universe, and His love is the foundation of our very existence.

As earthly parents, we understand the joy of hearing genuine praise from our children. When they honour us with their words or actions — not out of obligation, but from love — it touches our hearts. It makes us feel seen, appreciated, and motivates us to bless them even more. And since we are made in the image of God, it’s only natural that He too delights in the praises of His children.

Praise reminds us of God’s position — above all, in control, and forever faithful. It shifts our eyes from our problems to His power, from our limitations to His limitless nature. And though God is self-sufficient and does not need our praise, He lovingly welcomes it. He dwells in it. He delights in it.

Let today be one of those days where, instead of coming with a list of requests, you pause and pour out your heart in worship. Not because everything is perfect, but because He is perfect.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
I worship You with all that I am.
I praise Your holy and wonderful name.
Everything You have made — from the skies above to the earth beneath — is extraordinary and filled with Your glory.
I am forever grateful for what You have done and for what You continue to do in my life.
Today, I offer You my praise, not asking for anything, but simply honouring You because You are worthy.
May Your name be praised forever.
Amen.
