What Does 2 Corinthians 5:7 Mean?

What Does 2 Corinthians 5:7 Mean?

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7

Have you ever heard the saying, “Seeing is believing”? As humans, it’s much easier for us to believe that which we can see and prove. But when it is just something we’ve heard, then doubt creeps in. Most of the time, we even try to find someone we know who has experienced whatever it is firsthand so that they can vouch that in fact, the story is so.

But in 2 Corinthians 5:7, Paul made the statement that “we walk by faith, not by sight”. Usually, to truly understand what a bible verse means, it is important to read the verses before and after it. Sometimes reading the whole chapter helps you to understand the verse better.

In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul talks about our eternal home in heaven. He talks about how this earthly home is just a momentary thing, and eventually, we will leave this earthly body to go be with God.

Paul’s words address a question many of us wonder: what happens after we die? Is death the end, or do we go to be with God? So Paul is letting us know that although we haven’t died before and so we haven’t seen what happens after death, we have faith that God has prepared an eternal home for us and that is where we will be after death.

So here on earth, we are away from God and we may be burdened with problems but when the time comes, we will go to be with our Lord. But just because we are away from God doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do what is right.

Paul encourages us that even while we are physically away from God on earth, our aim should be to live a life that pleases God and honours His name. Because before we can be reunited with our maker, we will appear before Christ for judgement.

So we walk by faith not by sight means trusting in this promise, that we will be reunited with God after death and living a life aligned with God’s purpose, knowing that we will one day stand before Christ. This bible verse encourages us to trust deeply in God’s promises and let our lives reflect that trust.
