This is the account of Noah and his family.
Genesis 6:9
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.
This verse is one of my favourites in the Bible. It speaks about Noah and his deep relationship with God and how he stood out among the people of his time. The Bible describes Noah as a righteous and blameless man, and it also states that he walked faithfully with God. But what do these qualities really mean, and how can we apply them to our own lives today?
Noah’s story is one of faith, obedience, and perseverance in the face of a world that had turned away from God. He was a man who remained steadfast in his beliefs despite the sin and wickedness that surrounded him. His faithfulness was not just about words; it was demonstrated through his actions, his obedience to God’s commands, and his unwavering trust in God’s plan.
Let’s take a look at the key characteristics that made Noah stand out and how we, too, can strive to walk with God in our daily lives.

Noah Was a Righteous Man
To be described as “righteous” does not mean that Noah was without sin. The Bible clearly states:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
Yet, despite this, Noah was still called righteous. This tells us that righteousness is not about being perfect but about being committed to living in obedience to God. Noah did not live a sinless life, but he continually sought to do what was right in God’s eyes.
Many people today think that living righteously is difficult or even impossible. But in reality, it is simpler than we make it out to be. To be righteous, all you have to do is obey God. When He speaks, listen. When He commands, follow. It’s as simple as that.
If we want to be righteous in the way Noah was, we must align our actions with God’s will. This means choosing to do what is right even when it’s inconvenient, standing for truth even when it’s unpopular, and remaining faithful even when others doubt.
Noah Was Blameless Among His People
We live in a world where the actions of those around us influence us more than we realise. Social norms, peer pressure, and cultural expectations often dictate how we live our lives. But Noah lived in a time when the world was so wicked that God decided to destroy it with a flood.
“Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.”
Genesis 6:11
Yet, in the midst of all this, Noah remained blameless. This means that while the world around him was filled with sin, he chose to live differently. He did not allow the corruption of others to influence his faith or his actions.
Think about how difficult that must have been. Imagine living in a world where no one else follows God, where you are ridiculed for your faith, and where wickedness is the norm. Yet Noah stayed firm in his convictions.
He set his eyes on the Lord and did exactly as God commanded.
“Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
Genesis 6:22
Because of his obedience, Noah found favour with God.
“But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.”
Genesis 6:8
As believers, we, too, are called to be set apart. Even if the world around us is full of sin, we must not conform to its ways. Instead, we should focus on living in a way that is pleasing to God. The reward for obedience is great, just as Noah and his family were saved from the flood, we, too, will experience God’s favour and protection when we walk in righteousness.
Noah Walked with God
The Bible talks about many people, but only three men were ever described as having “walked with God”: Noah, Enoch, and Levi. This distinction is significant because walking with God means having a deep, personal relationship with Him.
What Does it Mean to Walk with God?

Come near to God and he will come near to you.
James 4:8
Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded
Walking with God doesn’t mean physically walking side by side with Him. It means living a life that is in step with His will. It means spending time in His presence, listening to His voice, and following His guidance.
To walk with God, you need to:
- Read and meditate on His word
- Pray always and seek His direction
- Forsake sin and live righteously
- Be patient and wait on the Lord’s timing
- Obey God even when you don’t fully understand His plan
Noah’s walk with God was consistent. He did not walk with God only when things were easy or when it was convenient. He walked with God faithfully, even when the world around him was against him.

Why You Should Walk with God

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Genesis 6:8
One of the most powerful lessons from Noah’s life is that walking with God brings favour and protection.
God was grieved by the wickedness of mankind and decided to destroy the earth with a flood.
“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.”
Genesis 6:5
But Noah was different. Because he walked with God, he and his family were spared. Through Noah, God renewed the earth and gave humanity another chance.
God’s favour is an extraordinary thing. It is more than just receiving blessings; it is God’s kindness extended beyond what is usual. When you walk with God, He will do things in your life that are beyond human understanding. He will open doors no one can shut, provide for you in ways you never imagined, and lead you through difficult times.
But walking with God does not mean life will be without struggles. Noah walked with God, but he still had to endure the flood. The difference was that, because he walked with God, the flood did not destroy him.
Similarly, when you walk with God, troubles will still come, but they will not destroy you. You will have the assurance that God is with you, guiding and protecting you through every storm.
A Prayer: Draw Me Close to You

Thank You for Your love and protection over my life. Thank You for forgiving my sins and for Your grace that allows me to draw near to You. I am grateful for the opportunity to know You and to walk in Your ways.
Today, I pray that You draw me closer to You. Teach me to hear and understand Your voice when You speak to me. Help me to be sensitive to Your guidance and to follow Your direction in all that I do. Give me wisdom to discern Your will and the courage to obey it, even when I don’t fully understand.
Help me to do as You command and to live a life that is pleasing in Your eyes. Strengthen my faith so that I may walk in righteousness and remain steadfast in my devotion to You. May my actions, thoughts, and words reflect Your goodness and truth.
Give me the strength to resist the influence of the world. Help me to stand firm in my faith, even when faced with temptation and opposition. Let me be an example of Your love and holiness to those around me.
Teach me to forsake sin and pursue a life of holiness. When I stumble, remind me of Your grace and lead me back to Your path. Fill my heart with a deep desire to know You more and to live according to Your Word.
Thank You, Lord, for always being with me. I trust that as I walk with You, I will experience Your favour, peace, and protection.
