Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Reflections
A wage is something you earn, a payment for the work you’ve done. The Bible lets us know in Romans 6:23 that the “wages of sin” is death. This means that the natural consequence of sin is separation from God, spiritual death.
From the very beginning, God warned humanity about sin’s consequences. In Genesis 3, He told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree in the middle of the garden, or they would die. Unfortunately, they were deceived and chose to disobey God, and their sin separated them from His presence.
So sin is essentially an absence of God’s presence. To resist or deny God’s presence in your life is like embarking on a path that leads to spiritual desolation.
Yet, God’s love is unfailing. He made a way for us to experience eternal life with Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for our sins, satisfying the “wages” on our behalf. Where sin brings separation, salvation through Jesus brings union with God.
This is why it is not your sins that condemn you. Your sins can not take you to hell, but instead, not believing in Jesus Christ is what can take you to hell.
Hell is the ultimate state without God’s presence. A place where all the qualities of God we experience in this life, such as love, peace, and joy, are utterly absent.
The birth of Christ brought hope for God’s presence to return to humanity, and His death and resurrection made that union complete. To everyone who receives Him, He gives the right to become a child of God.
God’s presence is freely given in the salvation we receive through Jesus. It is a gift, not earned by works but offered to all who believe. Every day is an opportunity to share this life-changing message.
Think of someone who might be searching for hope, peace, or forgiveness, and share the good news with them. By placing faith in Christ, anyone can secure their place in heaven and enjoy eternal life in God’s presence.
