Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 – Fix Your Eyes On The Unseen
One thing I have noticed is that life brings challenges for everyone. But no matter how tough things get, they get better eventually. But when we’re in the middle of difficult times, it often feels like the situation will never get better. This can lead us to stress, worry, and lose perspective, making our struggles feel even heavier.
Instead of focusing on the difficulties you’re facing and allowing them to control your emotions, your wellbeing, and most importantly, your faith, why not fix your eyes on the Lord? Why not focus on the One who is able to do all things?
In Matthew chapter 14, we see the story of how Peter stepped out in faith and walked on water toward Jesus. He was fine as long as he kept his focus on Jesus. But when he began to look around at his surroundings; the storm and waves, he became afraid and started to sink. This shows us how dangerous fixing our eyes on the wrong things is. The more we focus on our circumstances, the heavier they seem, and the more overwhelming life becomes.
No matter what you’re going through right now, don’t focus on the problem. Instead, fix your eyes on the glory that God has promised to you. There is a purpose beyond the pain, a reward beyond the hardship.
I experienced this firsthand during my pregnancy. I was terrified at the thought of labor. Scared that I wouldn’t be able to endure the pain, that something might go wrong. I kept dwelling on these fears. But when I shared my worries with my husband, he gave me a new perspective. He encouraged me to stop thinking about the pain and instead focus on the joy that awaited me; holding my baby in my arms. He reminded me that God, who began this miracle of life in me, would see it through to completion (Philippians 1:6). From that point on, I focused on the joy of having my baby, which completely transformed my experience.
That is the power of fixing your eyes on the unseen. Rather than magnifying your troubles, focus on the glory that lies ahead. There is a promise waiting for you, because God has good plans for His people (Jeremiah 29:11). Your current struggles are temporary, but the reward is eternal.
That is the power of fixing your eyes on the unseen. Instead of looking at how big your troubles are and the pains and sufferings you are going through, focus on the glory that awaits you. Because glory does await you. Because God always has plans for his people. (Jeremiah 29:11)
So how do we fix our eyes on the unseen? The answer is through faith. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” This assurance gives us strength to endure. Even though we can’t see the future, we trust in God’s promises.
So keep holding on to your faith. Your present struggles, no matter how heavy, cannot compare to the glory that is coming. Fix your eyes on the unseen and trust that God will lead you through. The best is yet to come.
