Today, Lift Your Eyes With Expectation – A Prayer For Help

I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1–2

When you lift up your eyes and all you see are mountains – immovable, towering, and imposing, you may feel overwhelmed and stranded.

These mountains might not be physical but emotional, financial, or spiritual. They can represent loneliness, betrayal, loss, or the many challenges that come with life in a broken world.

To lift your eyes to the hills is to acknowledge that you’re in the valley. It means you’re looking for hope, for rescue, for deliverance from something too big for you to climb on your own.

And that’s exactly where many of us find ourselves. Surrounded by needs, yet feeling overlooked, forgotten, or used by others.

In our world today, self-interest often overrides compassion, and it can be hard to find true help. Those who have the ability to help often choose silence or distance, and those who try to assist may find themselves taken advantage of, drained, or even harmed. The world’s love can feel transactional and unreliable.

But there is a different kind of love, a steadfast and faithful help that never fails. The psalmist reminds us that our help does not come from the hills themselves, but from the One who made the hills. Our help comes from the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth, who does not grow tired or weary and who never slumbers or sleeps.

Christ in You, the Hope of Glory

As believers, we must remember this powerful truth: “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). This is not just a poetic phrase, it is a foundational promise. Christ in you is not a passive presence; He is your living hope, your advocate, and your constant companion. Glory is not a distant, unreachable dream, it is your eternal inheritance and your present anchor.

The world may try to dim your light, drown your voice, or distract you from your purpose. You may feel neglected by people, but you are never forgotten by God. You may feel unworthy, yet Christ calls you chosen. You may feel defeated, but in Christ, you are more than a conqueror.

Remember what Jesus said: “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). He does not walk away when things get hard. He does not rescind His promises when you stumble.

Christ is not just your future hope, He is your present help. He walks with you through the valley, strengthens you on the journey, and stands with you on the mountaintop.

God’s Unfailing Rescue

Scripture is full of reminders of God’s commitment to rescue those who trust in Him. He is not a distant observer; He is an active deliverer.

“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”

Psalm 34:17

“Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honour me.”

Psalm 50:15

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.”

Psalm 18:16

These are not empty promises. They are declarations of God’s character. He is a rescuer, not because we are always faithful, but because He is. He saves, not only in the ultimate sense of salvation from sin, but also in the daily trials of life. He rescues you from fear, from despair, from spiritual dryness, and from the snares of the enemy.

We live in a fallen world, and hardship is part of the human experience even for Christians. But suffering is not the end of your story. God does not rescue you from every difficulty, but He always walks with you through them. And in those dark moments, He does not neglect you. He is nearer than your breath.

You Are Not Forgotten

There may be days when the silence around you feels deafening. Days when prayers seem unanswered, when people have turned their backs, or when you feel completely alone. But listen to the heartbeat of Scripture: God never forgets His children.

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”

Isaiah 49:15

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

God does not abandon the work of His hands. He has engraved you on the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16). This is the kind of attention and care your soul longs for and it is found in Him alone.

A Life of Hope, Not Despair

When Christ walked the earth, He didn’t simply teach about Heaven. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, raised the dead, and set the oppressed free. His mission was holistic, eternal salvation, yes, but also restoration and freedom in this present life.

As a believer, you are called to walk in that same hope. You are not meant to simply survive, you are meant to thrive under the shelter of God’s love.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). This abundant life is not free from pain, but it is rich with purpose, love, and divine help.

So speak to God, not just in crisis, but continually. Walk with Him, trust Him, lean on Him. He desires a relationship, not a ritual. The more you invite Him into your daily life, the more you will see His hand in every moment, guiding, comforting, and strengthening you.

Lift Your Eyes With Expectation

Today, lift your eyes, not in despair, but in expectation. Yes, the hills are high. Yes, the path is steep. But your help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He is able. He is willing. He is faithful.

In Him, you are not abandoned, you are anchored. You are not helpless, you are held. You are not defeated, you are destined for glory.

So let your heart be filled with hope. Let your spirit be lifted by truth. And let your eyes, your faith-filled, tear-stained, heavenward eyes, fix on the One who sees, who knows, and who rescues.

Your help comes from the Lord. Always.

A Prayer of Lifting My Eyes to the Lord

Dear Lord,

I lift my eyes to You, my constant help, my ever-present strength.
When everything around me seems uncertain and unstable, You remain my unshakable foundation. You are the One who never changes, even when my emotions do, even when my circumstances shift.

When I am down mentally, emotionally, or spiritually, I will look to You. You are the lifter of my head, the One who places peace where anxiety once ruled, and hope where despair once lingered. You comfort me in ways no one else can, filling the empty places in my soul with Your presence.

When I stumble and fall, when my strength fails me, I trust in Your unfailing hand to lift me up. You never condemn me when I am weak. Instead, You meet me in my brokenness and carry me when I have no more strength to stand.

When I am sick, Lord, You are my Healer. You not only care for my body, but You bring healing to the wounds of my heart, the hidden aches, the burdens I carry silently. I trust in Your power to restore what has been broken and to breathe life into what feels weary.

When I am in need, You are my Provider. You know my needs before I speak them. You are the God who sees, who supplies, who makes a way even when I see none. I will not fear lack, for my confidence is in You.

When I am falsely accused, misunderstood, or judged, You are my Defender. You speak on my behalf when I have no voice. You fight battles I do not see. You vindicate the humble and uphold the cause of the righteous.

When my heart is heavy and my spirit is weary, You are my Joy. You give beauty for ashes and the oil of gladness instead of mourning. You are near to the broken-hearted and You bind up every wound with Your love.

And as I wake to each new morning, I am reminded that You are my faithful companion, walking beside me, going before me, and dwelling within me.

So I lift my eyes again, not in fear, but in faith.
Because I know that my help comes from You,
and You will never fail me.

Amen.
