Verse – Genesis 24:12-14

Verse – Genesis 24:12-14

Then he said, “O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.

Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this, I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”

Reflection – Genesis 24:12-14 – Pray For Signs

Abraham’s plea to his servant was simple. ‘Go and fetch a wife for my beloved son Isaac from my country and not amongst the Canaanites with which we live’. There were complications with this request because the servant knew that no one would allow their daughter to follow him to Abraham just to be married without knowing who they were marrying or what they were getting into.

He however swore an oath to Abraham and went on his way. As children of God, there will be certain tasks assigned to us that may look impossible. God is aware of this. There are certain times in life when you know exactly what you must do but doing it would present a lot of obstacles you probably didn’t or did expect. What the servant did was ask God for a sign.

The reason he did this was that it was impossible to tell who the perfect wife for Isaac would be from the physical earthly eye. There will be people in life that will appear perfect to the eye but may not be perfect in their hearts. Others will do exactly what you expect them to do because of some benefits they might get from you.

When you are faced with these situations, you can ask God to open your eyes through signs. Tell him to deliver what you need spiritually by physically showing you away. Rebekah showed up and portrayed exactly the behavior the servant had asked to see.

God had heard him and made his job easier. It had the seal of God on it and he knew at that moment that he had honored his master Abraham. Ask God to give you signs. Perhaps you are weary and thinking of giving up. Ask Him to show you that there is still hope for you and he will answer.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for being there for me
Thank you for showing me the way
Hear me when I call for you
Let me hear you when you speak to me
Let me not dwell on my own understanding
Let me listen and follow your signs always
And fill me with the wisdom and guidance to
Carry your instructions through to completion.
