The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.
Psalm 34:17-19
God is our Maker and Our Father. Whether you believe in God or not, it does not change the fact that you did not create yourself. Just as one cannot give birth to themselves it is impossible for one to create themselves.
Knowing God is a personal step that every individual must take. It doesn’t matter if you are brought up in a church, told about God, or witness his divine miracles. It is still up to you to believe in Him and everything he has done and continues to do for you.
You have to feel God within you, accept him with your heart, and understand him with your mind. Once you do this you can be counted amongst the righteous. These are the ones he has given the right to become his children.
After you become a child of God, it is up to you to strengthen that relationship. Having a relationship with God requires a conscious and continuous understanding of his love and sacrifices for you every day.
Relating this to our world, we maintain relationships with other humans because of the benefits we receive from those people.
We make sure that we are always in conversation with them, that we never do anything that will hurt them, that we are there for them whenever they call, that we don’t care what we lose because of them, and that we continue to learn and understand them so that we do not do anything that will destroy our relationships with them.
Our relationship with God is more important than any other relationship we build on earth. He alone is responsible for our existence on earth and our eternal existence after death. If we want to spend our eternity with him we must learn to strengthen and maintain our relationship with him. We must know him and he must know us.
There are people in the world today who claim to do things in his name but really do not know him. To genuinely know God is to reflect the qualities of God in your daily life. You cannot claim to know him when you exhibit vile and disgraceful behavior.
When you don’t relate well with others and do not know how to love or forgive, you don’t really know him. God is love and his children must have the same quality. Work on your relationship with him by talking to him and learning his word always.
Embody his words in your daily life so others will be drawn to him also. This is the only way we can know him and know him well.

Your relationship with God should be a priority. He is the beginning and end of all things. Know him in truth and in spirit as well. Let him be a companion in all your endeavors.
Before you do anything you should know how he feels about it first. You should be in constant dialogue with him. When you are close to him, he prompts you when you are in danger; he lets you know which paths to follow and which paths will not end well for you. He should be your friend always and never depart from him.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
