6 Simple Morning Prayers For Children

Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 ESV

When it comes to kids, what they grow to become and how they behave depends on what teachings they are given from a young age.

That is why it is important to train up your child in the right way and when he’s older, he will still do what is right because it becomes a habit, it becomes a part of them.

One of the most important things to teach a child at a very young age is the word of God. This starts them off right in life and helps them know that there is always someone looking out for them.

You can do this by having a family devotion. This can be done every day or once every week, depending on what works best for your family’s schedule.

Another very important thing to teach your child is how to pray. You can do this by teaching them 3 simple prayers; a morning prayer, a bedtime prayer and a prayer to say before meals.

To serve as a reminder for the child and encourage them to pray often, you can even get them customized pins with words like “Pray”, “Prayer Warrior”, “Don’t Panic, Just Pray”. Wearing such pins on a daily basis, will remind the child to always pray.

Why teach children how to pray

1. To start them off right

What a child starts doing at an early age becomes a part of them. The reason most Christian adults don’t pray often is because they took too long to start.

When you make prayer a daily activity, it becomes part of your daily routine and you find yourself doing it every day. So teaching a child to say a morning prayer daily will help them cultivate the habit of praying into adulthood.

2. Helps them to practice gratitude

Saying a word of prayer daily encourages kids to practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude is one of the best lessons you can teach your children.

Practicing gratitude gives them a moment of reflection on all the good things happening in their life that they need to be thankful for. This will help them to be happier, feel more positive and even make them healthier.

3. To strengthen their faith

Saying a prayer daily is a way to communicate with God and connect with Him. So if your child practices this, it will help strengthen their faith in God and build their trust in Him.

4. It helps reduce stress

Stress is not only experienced by adults. Children feel stressed too. With school, assignments, studies, and house chores, your child is bound to feel stressed at a point.

But praying helps children feel a sense of calmness that will help relieve stress and make them feel better.

5. Helps them to be compassionate and forgiving

Children who pray often show more compassion towards others and easily forgive others when they offend them.

When you pray, you pray to God for a purpose. Whether it is to say thank you, ask for forgiveness or to ask for guidance and protection.

So when you start to pray, you let go of any grudge or anger that may hold you back, that way you can rest assured that your prayers are been heard.

So praying children learn to easily forgive and let go of anger and grudges. This helps them show kindness and compassion towards others.

Now that you know the importance of teaching your children how to pray, here are some simple morning prayers you can teach your children.
