Psalm 71:6 says ‘Upon you, I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.’ And 3 John 1:2 also says ‘Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.’
A birthday is a day we remember our birth. Even though we were not conscious of what was going on at the time, we mark it now because we are grateful and in awe of the Lord’s creation. We suddenly become conscious of our existence as the years go by and we marvel at the miracle of life.
The life that we have is of God. His breath quickened our mortal bodies into life. Every day we live, we owe to him. Breathing in and out seems simple enough but without the life in our bodies, this would not be possible.
Birthday Prayers are meant to help us remember all these privileges we enjoy from God and be thankful that after all the happenings of the years gone by, we still live.
There are people we start the year with but don’t finish with. Some of these people had their birthdays and some probably did not. When your birthday comes along you have to be thankful. Be thankful for the Lord’s favor on you and his protection. Pray for guidance in your life.
With birthdays come a new age and new experience. When we grow, we must not only grow physically but spiritually and in wisdom as well. The life that you have is a precious gift and like all precious gifts, we must care for them and keep them in a way that doesn’t risk breaking them.
Your spiritual growth is more important than your physical growth. Edify your spirit by getting closer to God with each new age. This tells him that you are ready for his purpose for your life. God has plans for us all and he watches over us each day in preparations for those plans.
When we mature spiritually, we tell him that we are ready. Just like earthly fathers wait for their children to reach a certain age before entrusting them with some responsibilities, God also expects spiritual growth from us.
